Basic Thoughts

Author: Zackary Willeford

Genre: Poetry

Published: January 2025

The language is not sanitized unlike the stretcher that gets cleaned after every call. The emotions captured are as raw as a gas station chicken breast being microwaved at three o’clock in the morning. The humor is as unique and bizarre as a night onduty with a full moon above. This is an unapologetic poetic memoir—a representation of the thoughts of any person who calls an ambulance home for 24 hours. BASIC THOUGHTS was created to reflect a short attention span in critical situations, which seems to be required to provide the best care for patients.

Zackary Willeford is an autistic Emergency Medical Technician (Basic), and a poet on-duty. Spend a year with Zack in an ambulance!
