Description
Two killers. Two unforgettable murder trials. One prosecutor who stood at the center of them both. Throughout the late 1950s to 1980, St. Louis was shaken by crimes that seemed almost beyond belief. A local dentist secretly orchestrated murderous insurance schemes, recruiting young women to marry unsuspecting men who would later be killed for profit. In October 1980, a callous robber walked into Pope’s Cafeteria and murdered four employees, ensuring that no victim would live to testify against him. These were more than newspaper headlines—they were investigations that demanded relentless determination, strategic prosecution, and an unwavering pursuit of justice.
In I Told You So, veteran prosecutor Gordon Ankney takes readers inside these infamous cases as someone who played a central role in the investigations, oversaw the arrests, and pursued the convictions. Ankney reveals what happened and what was said behind closed doors, offering insight into the experiences, training, and defining moments that prepared him to represent the State in murder prosecutions.
With the authenticity of firsthand experience and the suspense of a crime thriller, I Told You So provides a rare look inside two infamous murder trials in St. Louis history and the pursuit of justice for victims whose voices had been silenced
