Nova is delighted that Mr. Marcus is her new dad. Candy, toys, and a now complete family – what more could she ever want?

When Mr. Marcus starts touching Nova’s private places at night, she is afraid to speak up. She fears her dad would be in trouble if she told her mom. However, Nova draws courage from her Nova stone necklace to be as bold as her namesake and share this secret.

Nova Be Bold educates young readers to confide in a trusted adult(s) if ever touched in private places. This book also helps parents explain common signs of sexual abuse to children, provides discussion questions for further conversation, and offers additional resources.

DeVandra Wheeler

DeVandra Wheeler is an author and advocate dedicated to empowering children and young adults. She has served as a voice for both groups through community and prior military service. DeVandra’s passion for advocacy comes from her first-hand experiences of sexual abuse at a young age.  During this time, she lacked the confidence to speak up, nor had resources available to her.

Her purpose for Nova Be Bold is to educate young children about sexual abuse, facilitate conversation between children and parents, and empower those who have or are currently experiencing abuse to tell someone.  DeVandra looks forward to writing more children’s books and building a community of advocacy that takes action against child and adult molestation.
