Ken Wilson has had a distinguished career behind the microphone. A life-long sports fan and native of Detroit, he played hockey in his teenage years before graduating from the University of Michigan with a journalism degree. Ken’s initial professional work as a sports announcer sent him first to Hawaii before setting him off on a decadeslong journey of announcing both hockey and baseball at the major levels. Wilson became a household voice among St. Louis sports enthusiasts as a Cardinals broadcaster and, most notably, the St. Louis Blues. In more than two decades, he broadcast thousands of NHL games, exploding over big plays with his catchphrase, “Oh, Baby!” In this memoir, Ken Wilson looks back on the people, places, and unforgettable stories that shaped his life and career.

Meet the Author

Ken Wilson

Ken Wilson grew up loving baseball and hockey. His dream was to spend his life involved in his favorite sports. His dream came true. He’s broadcast nearly 4,000 Major League Baseball games and NHL contests. His fondness for his hometown of Detroit has never diminished and his attachment to his alma mater, the University of Michigan, grows stronger with time. The true beginning of his career was in Hawaii and he wears his fondness for the 50th state and the Aloha spirit on his sleeve. He’s most recognized for his twenty seasons describing St. Louis Blues hockey, but the highlight of Ken’s career was his call of Pete Rose’s hit #4,192 that broke Ty Cobb’s all-time hit record. Ken was voted Sportscaster of the Year in Hawaii and Missouri, while being honored with four Emmy Awards for his hockey play-by-play work.
